Boredom sucks
First off, a warm welcome to [livejournal.com profile] elfflame. I really enjoyed discussing the finer aspects of Draco, Lucius, and Snape with you last night. It's always nice to make new friends that share at some of the same ideas. :)

In other news, I am horribly bored. I am watching POA for...the third time today. I just got to the part in the CoMC class where Malfoy is checking Harry out. OK, so I know it's technically supposed to be him sizing Harry up as a possible threat or whatever, but you all know my warped little brain. ;) There are literaly tons of H/D moments in this movie if you're looking for them. :D

Amy pointed something else out Saturday when we were watching it. We were watching just before the time-turner sequence, and suddenly, she goes "So that's how Dumbledore gets around and knows so much!" I, of course had no idea what she meant until she explained. If you look closely when Dumbledore is talking to Hermione and Harry, just before he leaves them and they start the time-turner sequence, that little thing tied around his beard appears to be none other than a time-turner! Clever little girl! :D

I was playing around with my imaging program today, and finally ended up with an icon I'm rather proud of. What do you think?

I've asked [livejournal.com profile] midnighta to create me an av to use for AF, but if you're unable, or unwilling ;), to do it, dear, I'll use this one. :)

"What scares you the most?"

"P-p-professor Snape."

*laugh* "Professor Snape. Yes, well, he frightens us all."
:D Gods! I love that part! Score one for Lupin! :P

Oh, no, I totally agree with you. He's checking him out. Please, sending notes in class? Since when is that something you do with someone you hate? :P

I love Cuaron's slashy take on everything. Particularly Snape's line in the Shrieking Shack when he accuses Moony and Padfoot of arguing like a married couple. :D

Oh, yes! I loved that part too! :D I think Cuaron is either a master a slashiness, or decided to take pity on us poor slashers in fandom. The CoMC clas was the most blatantly obvious one (my 9-year-old daughter even picked up on it, and she HATES H/D! *gasp*) There's another good one during the feast, too. Right before Draco asks Harry about fainting on the train, he's checking him out, then, too.

I think Cuaron's got a very good take on their relationship. I mean, I know JKR will probably never hook them up in the books, but honestly...the first thing either of them notices wherever they go is each other. And they will go out of their way to gain any sort of attention from the other. I've known people that truly hated each other as much as those two do, and that most certainly is not the way they acted! :P

I just want to know what in the world she was thinking to have Draco be the first magical child he met, because for me that's the start of everything, and it's got to mean something, right? She never does anything without purpose.
[identity profile] bubblegumtotchi.livejournal.com on November 30th, 2004 02:19 am (UTC)
I've thought about that, too. She never, ever does anything in the books without a purpopse, but that just leaves us to speculate on the possible implications of that first meeting. I know she's said she won't have any same-sex relationships in the series by the end, but the set-up is so completely there. There's nobody else in the entire series that Harry goes so far out of his way to impress (even if he's convinced himself it's just to show Draco he's the better of the two), and he's not shown any real interest in the girls, other than Cho, and we all know how THAT turned out. Draco's one of the few people who sees him, not as the "Saviour" everyone else does, but just another person, and I firmly believe that is something Harry needs, and even wants. He doesn't want to be put up on a pedastal and idolized, he just wants to be accepted for himself, faults and all. Draco's constantly jeering about Harry's faults in front of his friends, but he also, at the same time, seems to accept them on another level.
elfflame[personal profile] elfflame on November 30th, 2004 02:28 am (UTC)
Completely. And Draco goes out of his way to get Harry's attention all the time. Even when he's goading the other two, you get the impression he's doing it because Harry's not responding, you know? I think it's really what makes these two work so well.

Has she actually said no same-sex relationships? That's going to bum a lot of people out. Sirius and Remus is just so possible, you know? And I can see some Lucius/Severus, too. Though, have you ever noticed that Snape and Lucius have never been in the same room together? I really want to know what that means...
[identity profile] bubblegumtotchi.livejournal.com on November 30th, 2004 02:44 am (UTC)
Unfortunately, she has said no. Because it's really meant to be a children's series, and kids as young as 8 and 9 are reading them. (My daughter's 9, and she's read the entire series so far.)

I can see Sirius/Remus, too. They work really well together. Sev/Lucius I'm unsure about. Their personalities are a bit too much alike, in my mind. I prefer Sirius/Lucius, myself. ;) Sirius/Lucius to me is a lot like H/D. One's fire, the other ice.

But, no, I hadn't ever noticed that, until you mentioned it. (I'm usually too focused on Lucious to notice much else. ;) ) But now that you mention it, they haven't, have they? *ponders*

For me it's Severus/Sirius. Have you read any of Fabula Rasa's stuff? She's amazing. Next to H/D, they're my OTP, and it's practically all she writes.
[identity profile] bubblegumtotchi.livejournal.com on November 30th, 2004 03:22 am (UTC)
I don't think I've read any of her stuff. Got linkies? :D I really like fanon Snape, and I'll read pretty much anything with him (even Snarry! *gasp*) I'm not overly fond of canon!Snape, but he fascinates me to no end, for some reason.
elfflame[personal profile] elfflame on November 30th, 2004 05:59 am (UTC)
Fabulae is her website.  I also recommend the Thin Line.

Not really into Snarry myself. But Snape/Sirius, Snape/Remus, Snape/Draco... :D I guess there had to be one Snape ship that I just didn't get.
[identity profile] bubblegumtotchi.livejournal.com on November 30th, 2004 01:00 pm (UTC)
Thanks so much for the links! :D

I'm not a big fan of Snarry, either, to be honest. But it's amazing the things we'll read if we get bored enough. ;) I got bored one day, and read a couple that were amazingly good. *shrug* I've read a few Lupin/Lucius ones, too, that were really good.
elfflame[personal profile] elfflame on November 30th, 2004 02:06 pm (UTC)
Oh, I adore Lucius/Remus. But they're quite difficult to find. And the good ones are always smut, really. ;)

I have read, and even recced a few good Snarrys, but they're few and far between, and the couple themselves does little for me, whereas Sirius and Severus or Draco and Harry can just be in a room together snarking at each other, and I get tingly. ;D

And I love it when Neville steps forward and Remus says: "'lo" in some kind of a whisper :D

I about wet myself with the Time-Turner thing! I NEVER would have noticed that! Now I have to go watch PoA and see! It makes so much sense!

*deep breaths*

I honestly had no idea what she meant when she first said it. I had to stop the DVD and zoom in on it to see. I always thought it was just metalic beads on the end of whatever he was tying his beard with. o_O
